Complete computer securITy is impossible to realize, the recommended option is "layered securITy". WITh multiple ways of securITy, the chances of the system to be broken are smaller. There are many possible layers, like firewall, anti-virus or online scans. All of them are preventing viruses, but each in a different way. This increases the chances of detecting any virus.
